Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to Tome’s President, the new Business Development Manager role will be responsible for supporting all of Tome’s existing clients and contributing to new business opportunities. Tome has maintained deep client relationships through the pandemic and is growing the business from $5 million to $25 million over the next 3-5 years. We are successful when our clients are successful and managing client success is a significant contributor to our success.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a small business and help us grow. The ideal candidate has a strong background and demonstrated experience in selling and managing business development for software services, mostly within the automotive and mobility markets. The role will provide an opportunity to build new client relationships, develop business channels and grow the Tome business development team.

The Tome Business Development Manager will also be responsible for leading the client requirements for the Tome Safety Team and the Tome AOSP (Android Auto) Team.

Business Development Responsibilities Include:

  1. Happy Clients: (50% of your time)
    1. Lead monthly client reviews for projects and support client-executive annual reviews
    2. Work with project managers and the engineering team to ensure end-to-end expectations are met from project scope to purchase order to project delivery
    3. Using our CRM tools, continuously improve Tome’s internal business development process (prospecting, SOW, client communications, etc.)
  2. New Business Development (50% of your time)
    1. Managing key existing clients and recurring program business
    2. Managing inbound client project requests
    3. Traveling to trade shows and industry events (CES, Mobile World Congress, automotive shows, mobility conferences, smart city conferences, etc.)
    4. Developing a list of longer-term business and partnership opportunities that are a good fit for Tome
    5. Managing and developing the list of Tome’s non-revenue partnerships as a third-party independent software vendor (ISV) for client work (i.e., AWS, GCP, etc.)


  1. 5-7 years of experience in business development (or sales) using a CRM tool
  2. Must live in southeast Michigan. (No relocation, sorry!)
  3. Must be able to travel (domestic and international) trade shows and events as needed
  4. Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  5. Must be able to show proof of vaccination (Which is required to be on-site for our clients as well as trade shows we attend)


  1. Possess a “whatever it takes” work attitude
  2. Experience managing sales and/or business development within automotive OEMs, automotive suppliers, and/or software services
  3. Strong technical product background – software product experience preferred
  4. Experience working with a CRM “all day every day”

Make sure to tell us if you have these bonus skills:

  1. Specific experience in automotive safety technologies (C-V2X, V2V / V2X, ADAS, etc.)
  2. Specific experience in automotive IVI or android technologies
  3. Experience managing a CRM for improvements (e.g., pipeline flow, contact management, etc.)
  4. Cycling background (avid cycling, commuting, racing, design, repair, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits:

  1. Base salary, plus bonus structure. (This is not a commission gig.)
